Obituary of Louis John DiPietro
Louis John DiPietro, 95, of East Windsor, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton, New Jersey.
Louis was born in Englewood, NJ and raised in Cliffside Park. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, and after being honorably discharged, earned his college degree by attending NYU at night on the GI Bill. Notably, he also played shortstop for a minor league baseball team called, seriously, the Detroit Clowns. After hanging up his baseball uniform, he had a long and successful career in finance in New York City.
In 1953, he married his high school sweetheart, Jean Bellomo, the love of his life. As legend has it, he was too shy to talk to her at first, so he’d just knock the books out of her hands and run past her walking to school. Together they raised a family in Hasbrouck Heights and Oradell. After retirement they resided in the Enchantment at Hamilton, and moved to the Meadow Lakes Community of East Windsor in 2021. They recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. Lou loved to sing, and later in life, sang for many local retirement communities and nursing homes, beguiling them with classics from Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Willie Nelson. He also was the founder and director of the Enchantment community choir, the high-spirited “Chant Tones.” He and Jean loved to travel, with fondest vacation memories of the annual two weeks of family beach and boardwalk bliss in Wildwood, NJ.
While entering his tenth decade, Louis decided to become a writer, so he began work on a musical titled, appropriately, “It’s Never Too Late.” The show, composed by Louis Josephson, was recently produced by Theatre-To-Go Productions at the Mercer County College theater, making Louis DiPietro, at age 95, the oldest novice playwright in the country. “It’s Never Too Late” received rave reviews.
He is predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Ida (Spacone) DiPietro; his son, Ralph DiPietro; and his brother, Raymond DiPietro. He is survived by his wife, Jean (Bellomo); his daughters and their spouses, Janet DiPietro Hoolachan and John Hoolachan of Ellicott City, MD, and Linda and Martin Adams of Marlton, NJ; his son, Joseph DiPietro and partner, Derek McCracken, of New York, NY; and his four beloved grandsons, Jordan, Aidan, Zachary and Nolan; along with his beloved nieces and nephews, Larry, Joe, Laura, Tom, Claire, Gail and Julie.
Visitation for friends and family will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Saint Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 156 Maxwell Avenue, Hightstown, NJ 08520. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m.
Interment services will be held Friday, April 17, 2026, at 1:00pm at the Fairview Cemetery, 500 Fairview Avenue, Fairview, NJ 07022.
