Obituary of May F. Houtenville

May Felton Houtenville, formerly of Plainsboro, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the age of 90. Born in Cranford, NJ on October 23, 1933, to the late Alice and James Fairweather, she outlived her five sisters, Betty Wark, Isabel Podezwa, Emily Driver, Alice Allen, Ruth Leduc and her brother, James Fairweather.

 

May is survived by her four grateful children who adored and admired her, John Houtenville and his wife,Rosalind, of Laguna Niguel, CA, Amy Rojas and her husband, James, of Hamilton, NJ, Tim Houtenville and his wife, Paula, of East Windsor, NJ and Andrew Houtenville and his partner, Lynne Oliver, of Northwood, NH; her 10 grandchildren who loved her very much and will miss her greatly, Amy Brierly, Kelly McDonald, Michael Houtenville, Katie Rojas, Alexander Houtenville, Kristin Houtenville, Zachary Houtenville, Shannon Houtenville, Audrey Houtenville and Adam Houtenville; and 3 great-grandchildren, Logan and Sawyer Brierly and Maverick McDonald. In addition, she had many loving nieces and nephews.

 

May was very proud of her long and successful nursing career that began with the Frontier Nursing Service in Kentucky and completed with her years in the Labor and Delivery Unit at Princeton Hospital. As a nursing supervisor, she was loved and respected by her staff and all of those with whom she worked. She was a talented artist, with many of her art pieces brightening the homes of her children and grandchildren, an avid gardener with a bright green thumb and had an unwavering love for animals, especially for the many cats and dogs she had over the years.

 

Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her was blessed with her kindness, acceptance of others and the fact that she never passed judgement on others. May will be dearly missed by all who knew her and whose lives she touched.

 

A Celebration of Life Service for friends and family in honor of May will be held at the Cornerstone Fellowship Church (the former site of the Plainsboro Presbyterian Church of Plainsboro), 500 Plainsboro Rd., Plainsboro, NJ 08536 on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. An interment service will be held at the Cranford Methodist Church at a later date.
